Thanks and Admiration!
« on: September 15, 2008, 09:56:34 am »

I'm new here, in case that isn't blindingly obvious... However, I wanted to express my admiration and thanks to Toady for creating this masterpiece of a game. It's complex beyond all hopes and dreams, and as someone who loved games such as Dungeon Keeper in the past, I can only say I hope he continues to develop this game.

Also, to all of those in the community surrounding DF, thank you. There's a myriad of wonderful tools out there to expand one's experience, and the wiki is a LIFE SAVER.

Please, keep up all of the good work.

Slightly off-topic, but speaking of Dungeon Keeper: I've heard many a mention of it here, and was curious. Is it abandonware or can it be had cheap somewhere? I'm interested in trying it.

I think it can still be had cheap, but I haven't seen a copy for years.
Even worse, my copy of DK2 packed in a few months ago.

You can likely find Dungeon Keeper and DK2 on Amazon.com. That said, however, good luck getting them to run on modern computers. They simply weren't programmed to run on modern processors, so expect a challenge.

When you wake up in the morning, praise Toady!
It is enough to experience Dwarf Fortress!

...

Wow, now I actually want to mod my game to have Toady and DF spheres.   :P

I have my ways... *evil mad scientist laugh*

Ahem...anyway, is there a better choice in DK2, or should I just get both?

DK2 runs "just fine" on windows XP (by "just fine" I mean "it crashed a lot, and still does")

DK2 just breaks for NO REASON a few minutes into the game, but DK1 runs like an absolute dream.

Your system must suck.  ;)
I have zero problems with it on x64 Vista Ultimate.

We seem to get a lot of this type of thread, anyone else think we get enough to warrant a Greetings/Praises sub-forum for people to introduce themselves and/or shower praises on Toady and Three Toe?

Edit: Oh and welcome to the forum!

Nop, 1 [perhaps a stickied introduction] thread should be perfectly enough IMO.  :)
