SHORT VERSION:

When climbing a mountain with a companion, your character is credited twice as being one of the first to reach the peak.

Your companion receives no credit at all.

Save from 40d version available here: click

JUMBLED MUMBLING:

I went back to play in a world created in v0.27.169.33a.

Playing in v0.28.181.40c.

I climbed to a mountain peak with a dwarf.  I was accompanied by a drunk.
When I checked out Legends Mode for my character:

In the midautumn of 1052 Rakust and Rakust were the first to reach the summit of The Finger Of Graves, which rises above The Momentous Horn.

Don't remember what the drunk's name was (and he got lost on the climb back down...) but it's definitely counting my main dwarf twice - when I check the region information:

In the midautumn of 1052, the dwarf Rakust Lightningspear the Curious Slaughter of Colors and the dwarf Rakust Lightningspear the Curious Slaughter of Colors were the first to reach the summit of The Finger Of Graves, which rises above The Momentous Horn.

No, he didn't stop to eat any funny mushrooms along the way...

EDIT:  gratuitous image of the South end of the Horn, seen from the sea to the East

Yup.
I love the area around the Horn.  ;D
Hopefully I'll be able to play some more in this world a few versions down the line... hoping to be able to re-recruit a friend who lost an arm, after scarring is in.

Update to bug report:

Climbed another mountain with the same character and a drunk to accompany.
Same thing happened.

Rolled up a new character in the same 33a world, and went to climb a different mountain - again with a drunk to accompany.
Same story:

In the midwinter of 1052, the human Usmen Cloudyrope and the human Usmen Cloudyrope were the first to reach the summit of The Worldy Greenness-Brother of Discovering, which rises above The Eldar Autumnal Beak.

EDIT: another gratuitous image - view of the Beak from the North.  Need to work on the colouring a little...

I'll try climbing a mountain with a companion in a 40c world tomorrow, and see what happens.

OK, so I rolled up a dwarf in a world created in the current version.

Recruited a swordsdwarf to slow my climb down keep me company, and headed for the mountains.

Same thing happens.
The entry for the region reads:

In the late spring of 200, the dwarf Nil Tickwhip and the dwarf Nil Tickwhip were the first to reach the summit of The Pillar Of Waters, which rises above The Distracting Horn.

My companion is still up on the mountain somewhere, killing goats.

If you want a save from either region, let me know what you need and I'll see about uploading it somewhere.

EDIT: last gratuitous image... twin peaks.  If I'd brought more supplies, I'd have climbed the volcano too.

Kinda reminds me of Lizard Head Peak... or maybe Kapsiki Peak.

Perhaps the one that my dwarf just climbed was the original active volcano, and the one just behind it is where it moved to.

More on bug report:

I remembered the name of my companion on the 40c climb.
Looking Ringape up, he's not got any entry in his legends about climbing.

Fresh install of 40d, made a new world - same story.

In the midspring of 100, the dwarf Zulban Rackroasted and the dwarf Zulban Rackroasted were the first to reach the summit of The Free Barb, which rises above The Beak of Strategy.

Pfft. Real gamers don't need gracious images. All we need are drunk dwarves and elves to execute.
