Forbidden area. 40c
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:22:58 am »

Whenever I order my dwarves to stay inside, every single job cancels. There is NO outside area that needs to be walked as I set them as forbidden via traffic anyway.

Also, all of my light areas are indoors aside from the z levels above my active zlevel. The top is walled in. It is inside via floors which light seems to pass through.

Anyway... Why does it happen? NOTHING even goes outside!

I thought you have been around long enough to know three things:
1) This is reported a lot.
2) "Dwarves stay inside" is more like "dwarves stay where it's dark."
3) Constructed floors do not block light.

Also, I assume you mean that you set the outdoors as forbidden via restricted traffic controls?

If so (and you're not just forbidden any job-related outdoor items, which is fine), keep in mind this does not actually forbid dwarves from going there; they'll still perform jobs the same places, and the traffic zone will only help decide how they get there.

It seems like problems caused by the Light\Inside\Dark\Outside tags are piling up, I ended up ditching that fort that had the map-encircling river because of the hassle of trying to fix my mistake (channeling the map). I had actually built a skyward aqueduct to try and drop magma in the river but when I realized this fort, too, has NO GEMS due to my dicking around with raws, I gave it up :(
