Smaller bars
« on: November 21, 2008, 10:44:36 am »

Once improved stacking is in, bars should be made to represent a smaller amount of metal in order to allow finer-grained control over how much you get from an ore and how much it takes to make an item.

(I've got more specific suggestions coming that depend on this as a basis)

Their was a mod released a short time ago that increased the number of bars from ore by replacing the normal smelting reactions with custom ones.  I used it and then added an increase in the material size of all the items in the game to effectively make each bar smaller in the sense of the usable amount of production.  Its a bit of a logistical pain though as the amount of bar hauling is much greater, a better system for handling bins of metal (dwarfs should have a stronger preference to move a full bin rather then one bar).
