Idler Count Interval Average
Every X amount of time (init.txt option) it gives an average Idler count next to your at-the-moment Idler count.
Support: The game telling you that you have 45 of 200 dwarves idle doesn't tell you much when it fluctuates between 15 and 60 at arbitrary times.  An Idler Count Interval Average would be like an economic unemployment report that could tell how well you keep your fortress occupied.  The accuracy of the reports could be attached to a noble (Clerk?) like resource counts currently are.

In-Room Storage Zone Designations
We've all seen rooms with clothes and items thrown around:

But add an area designation which only works in bedroom designations, like this:

Dwarves would place items in the storage area of their rooms, like this:

Support: It looks better, and adds a bit more realism.

So, what say you?

Pretty interesting ideas, but I think cabinets and chests function as the 'storage zones' currently, as dwarves should put their posessions into them if they're in an assigned bedroom.

The Idler count suggestion is pure genius.

Maybe rather than show just idlers, it could show mean idle time?

I like the idea of separating the Idle Count due to workers taking a few ticks to find a new job (a healthy sign that your economy has room to grow in the real world) and chronic unemployment due to not enough basketweaving jobs, poor labour assignations or being bricked inside a wall.
