I play fortress 95% of the time. Adventurer mode might get me once the skills arc is in, but I doubt it.

So in this order:

  • Burrows , Transportation + Automation
  • Caravan
  • Army
  • County
  • Diplomacy

The first represents a quantum improvement in fortress management.
The last 4 to me generate a mega-arc that leads to a significant fortress late game.

Adventurer skills. One-dwarf fortress anyone?

Adventure Skill Arc.

The one I'm looking forward to the most is though, the burrows arc <_<.

Burrows arc and caravan/economy arc.

Loads and loads of stuff that one could do to increase the enjoyment of playing in fortress mode. Afterall this is what most people play, and were features are most sorely needed.

a viable economy
factions and nobles intrigue
religion/temples
overhaul of the production chains to make them realistic, enjoyable and intuitive

And more importantly, I want the game to talk to me. I want to know what is going on without having to pause every 2 minutes and read peoples minds.

Realistically, Toady has already said the high priority the caravan arc will have.  Not to mention it's heavily implied on the arcs page that the two are intrinsically linked.  It should be a given that the next arc after army will be caravan.

So we should basically strike the caravan arc off as done and be asking what arc should be taken on after the next two are complete, rather than just the next.  Just wanted to clear that up.

From a management and logic standpoint, the burrows arc makes the most sense.  Along with going a long way to improving interface and management, it will also help solve a lot of issues regarding pathfinding and fps slowdown.  So it's pretty important from a technical aspect, even if it's not flashy like the Fire and Lighting arc.

On the other hand, the Diplomacy arc would be really beneficial AND flashy, not to mention a reachable summit once the caravan arc is complete.

So, probably one of those.

I don't tend to play adventurer mode, but the skills might tempt me more.  I guess I'm still a bit foggy on how extensively they'll really expand play.

I'd like to see something of the wound handling arc appear.  The first item listed - dealing with scarring and the removal of phantom pain - would be a nice addition.  And then maybe false limbs!  I could get into a totally blinged-out platinum prosthetic leg that menances with spikes of silver and is engraved with scenes of the battle in which the leg was lost.  ;D
