I learned this the hard way after the first release with worldgen parameters.  :-[

Hrm, trying to generate a world with those settings (copy/pasting that into my init, except I changed the title to something other than medium so as not to overwrite my own medium) gave me several thousand rejects and it was only when I told it to accept one of the rejection types that it managed to create a world.  I don't think that's correct behavior.  What did I do wrong?

Odd, I just started a game there and I got migrants in my first year. Looking through the legends I see that the last (and apparently only) Dwarven hall fell only eight years before worldgen ends and that a bunch of dwarves fled into the forest when it happened rather than being slaughtered by the elves, perhaps the game kept track of them and allowed for immigration? I set up shop right next to the ruins of the hall so they wouldn't have far to migrate.

An amusing side note, I'd actually been hoping that there wouldn't be migration so I could play out a scenario where my dwarves were the last surviving members of the species, rebuilding solely through natural childbirth. When I checked out my starting seven I found that I had six female dwarves and only one male dwarf. Last male dwarf in the world, I thought for a while there. A pity polygamy isn't supported. :)
