[.39E] Stuck in 'Siege' Mode
« on: August 07, 2008, 07:20:29 pm »

Okay so I'm getting sieged without a military and, not wanting to lose my fort at the progress I have made, I turn on DF Companion and, 1 by 1, teleport the little f*ckers over the volcano conveniently located at the southwest corner. They fall in and burn to death, like so many before them, but now comes the odd part. This is not the first siege I have vanquished in such a fashion, but it is the first time I have been forever stuck in siege mode after all of the goblins have been destroyed. Is it possible this is a side effect of using such lowbrow tactics to destroy my enemies, or could it be strictly related to the game?

Edit: Could it also have anything to do with that I had an elven caravan coming at the same time the siege showed up?

You might have an ambush hiding around the map somewhere.

Negative. Dwarf Companion denotes no more existing goblins on the map. Or hidden dwarfs or elves, for that matter.

It could have something to do with utility use, but I'm not sure.  I've got a save with this that I'm going to check at some point.  I'm not sure if utilities were used there or not.

I have the same problem

Goblin siege came, a champion and a few soldiers slaughtered through some of them, resulting in what you see here. There is a goblin still there (has been for 2 years now) that can't leave with everyone else. Even more strange, the GUI won't show he exists at all except for the graphic. 'k' and 'v' commands show nothing is there. However, he appears to be causing the siege to never end.

Now I never get traders or anything. No utility has been used on the game at all, the only change I made was with the graphics.

I have a game saved with it, but I can't upload it now, but if you want it Toady (you mentioned you already had one) or anyone else, I'd be happy to. I'd love to know a fix, now I never get any traders or further sieges. Only an occasional megabeast.

perma-siege actually seems to have a number of causes, all of which seem to be deaths not registering properly.
saving while a creature is falling or being flung to his death appears to be one of those bugs.

That would certainly be why the problem occured. Is there any way to fix it? Like using a utility, or opening up the save file and forcing the game out of siege mode?
