Hi I am new to Dwarf Fotress. My main interest is in adventure mode. And I was wondering how much has been done with adventure mode? I've been looking for a fantasy version of The Unreal World and was wondering how much functionality dwarf fortress has in adventure mode. Not sure if im being very clear here lol. Also would anyone happen to have keybindings for a lap top? No numberpad is a pain.
Here is what you are looking for as far as the laptop keybindings:
http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Key_bindingsI use that setup on my laptop and it works great.
Also has a basic tutorial for editing them into your setup files.
As for how much has been done with dwarf fortress adventure mode, there are many of us here that have done pretty much everything one can do in adventure mode. At it's current incarnation, it isn't very deep. The combat log is the only thing which goes below the surface of typical slash-em-up RPG style games, and the inventory is ass-awful and difficult to learn.
The good thing is that the framework around which to build a fleshed out beastly game system has been laid. Stuff like advanced object interaction has the potential for some really nice later applications. Like filling your waterskin. It's cool that you can do it, but, I imagine later, when you hit shift-i instead of ONLY being able to fill your waterskin, you will also be able to fill buckets, and helmets, and whatever is cointainerish, as well as a number of other interesting interactions.
So, for now, it aint much, but it's a nice diversion from fortress mode.
As far as "what's been done", check out the modding forum, there have been a few full conversion mods for fantasy environments like Forgotten Realms and some other ones, though I've never heard of the story you're speaking about.
Hope that helps.
