I was thinking of taking on a challenge.

A challenge where you start with.... wait for it

no skills. Obviously you won't survive long but you may get lucky and fight hoary marmots and get your wrestling or something high enough so you can actually take on a wolf.

Though I do have a problem, and that is finding those furry little hoary marmots. I have no idea how I would go about finding one except for searching nonstop.

Seeing how common wolves are, it'd be just about impossible.

Nah; it'd be time-consuming and sort of stupid, but not impossible. Just sneak around town until your ambushing skill has gone up a bit and given some attribute boosts and then go hunting with sand. Once you're decently strong/tough, start wrestling things and then just work your way up.

i've done it before

i had a "play now" human, no skills, no equipment, no clothes, no waterskin, no backpack

i survived long enough to get legendary shield and sword and had bout 15 notable kills, so, it's doable, and EXTREMELY rewarding in the beginning.

The first thing you need to do is go grab a crapload of pebbles and practice throwing them at nothing for hours until you get very high skill.

Then go to a goblin fort or an elf place and practice sneaking around until you spot someone isolated from the rest of the group.  Pelt them with rocks until they go down and take their weapon in one hand, shield in another if they have one, or another item, then go back to a town and trade those for a backpack, then go back ad do it again until you have enough money to buy some food, waterskin, armor, weapons, etc

It's really challenging, but, again, very rewarding just in the "shit man look what I did" factor.

But yeah, try and stay away from forests if you can.  If you see wolves, just run like hell.

You'll have to melee to get them hostile though. I always do this with kobolds instead.
