Tunnelling speeds

I was wondering: do the various rock types let the dwarves tunnel through them at greater or lesser speeds?  My impression is that it's all the same; could this be changed?  I remember in Moria one of the main tricks was to always find the non-granite rocks (magma intrusions in particular) and follow those veins.  In  this game it doesn't seem to matter so much - excavating ores or gems seems to be significantly slower, but that's all (and you make a point of excavating those anyway).  I would expect however that limestone or sandstone or talc would be much quicker to tunnel through than granite or obsidian.

One reason I bring this up is that in a lot of screenshots of fortresses I see - and to a certain extent in the ones I build - things just get laid out as giant rectangular blocks, with no real constraints imposed by terrain.  It's like drawing on a blank slate.  That's not very interesting.  Tunnelling quickly through soft stone and getting slowed to a crawl when you hit granite would make fort layouts more interesting.

Ore-filled squares are digger much faster - at least that's my impression.

Stone properties is to-do, but it ended up fairly low on the list.
