Drowning elves in 39f

I'm not sure if its because of the update to 39f, but these elves just will not drown. they've been sitting in a locked room full of water level 7, and they are just feeling melancholy. can elves hold their breath forever now?

I should mention they've been in there holding their breath for a whole season now, and their donkeys already died and rotted away.

Well, longwindedness works both says, it seems. At any rate, that's why it pays to have a 12 z-level drop for your drain.

Do they have an open space above their heads? They can breathe through that.
