I think game releases should be handled exactly like orgasms. I won't provide details, but it suffices to say that game releases should happen as frequently as possible, with just enough time between to catch your breath.

Or do you mean they should be released early, in mid-development, leading to much disappointment?

Edit : duke nukem falls under doom and related? closest I can find to it.

Well, Half Life gets it's own category, so there's no reason Duke Nukem 3d should be lumped together with doom.

I picked... (in order)

Tribes
Unreal Tournament(NOT SPELLED WITH A Y! ::))
Total Annihilation

Seriously tribes doesn't get enough attention.
UT has mods through the roof.If it wasn't for those UT would be nowhere near the top 3 for me.
TA.I spent alot of time with that sucker.Unfortunately the mod base is poor to none.

Wow, a lot of X-Com fans. I feel at home here ;). But the list is still fail, because it doesn't include Dune 2, the first RTS, and up to this day, still very enjoyable. It only lacks rectangle-selection.

Shadowdump: Mod base for TA is poor? Have you even seen the main community site? Not to mention the standalone multiplayer spinoff?

I don't think X-com was up there when I voted, but it would have had my vote.

I still think it's the greatest turn-based strategy game ever.  I seriously wish a major studio would do a remake.  I would be happy if they just left the game-play alone, as I think it is practically flawless.  They could just beef up the graphics, sound and maybe flesh out the story with added cut-scenes.

Call me crazy, but I voted for FF. I usuallly treat video games like books, so linerality doesn't really bother me that much.

Although, I was just thinking about how awesome a non-linear Red Alert 2 would be yesterday . . .

My other votes went to DF and would have gone to (non-EA) Red Alert 2 (Where else can you fight with a future govenor?!).

Yeah, X-Com is number 2 on my top games ever list, right after DF, of course ;). Three would be Dune 2, but I've picked the next best RTS: TA, because there is no Dune 2 on the FAILLIST.

Theres a fair bit of games missing actually... like X3 Reunion..
Then again any "best games" list always misses 90% of games.
