Unstable alcohol.
« on: August 06, 2008, 11:19:50 am »

I was thinking about adding a "drink" item thats really expensive and can't handle temperature changes.
Is this possible. I know the inside of a cave keep a steady temperature. What i want is esentialy a booze that explodes or burst into flames if it touches "sunlight"(temperature changes) any suggestions?

Ask Toady, I think stuff like this would need some hard coding.

What you would have to do- is make a world at 2000 degrees  - make your dwarfs, booze plant, and booze barrel - heat resistant - then make sure you have an underground tower cap farm for wood.

Do all materials have hardcoded burn temperatures? Or is that scripted in the raws?

Are you planning on giving some of that to the next bunch of elves that dispise everything thats dwarven?

Elf1: "Well those Dwarves were eerily nice today"
Elf2: "I don't know why they gave us all this alcohol"
Elf1: shrugs
They leave the fortress entrance: BOOM!!

i am not a modder but i think if you put it's burning tempereture just above the one of cave it will explode when it wil be brougth to exterior in warm and hot temperature (so half of the problem is solved...)

Nah it just feels like one of those things a dwarf might make... a booze with a bit more kick. That everybody else is terrified of.

I imagine the alcohol would use the same settings as the plant it was made from for temperatures.

I can imagine a Goblin thief running out of the cave, barrel of this stuff inder his arm, muttering to himself about how stupid those Dwarfs are for making his job SOOO easy, as he darts out of the cave, we see a large explosion at the entrance.

Serves the skulking thieves right.

Interesting topic! I was doing something similar making an explosive rock to be fired in a catapult, with little sucess, or an explosive ballista bolt made of metal,........with little success.

So "if" the properties are comeign from the plant it would probably be called fire fruit or something and be quite dangerous.

If the alcohol become flamable at a temperature change, would a barrel increase the time it takes due too layering and stuff any clues?
