note to self

When creating an obsidian-farming-chamber right next to barracks, such that the magma level is one level below the barracks, with doors leading from the barracks into the chamber, REMEMBER TO FREAKING LOCK THE DOORS WHEN FLOODING THE CHAMBER WITH MAGMA!

Note to self:

Don't do stupid things.

That pretty much sums everything up.  :P

awesome.  i lost more than a few forts to irrigation systems back in the 2D version when we had to irrigate farms each year.  Of course we developed saftey measures and channels and such later, but it was a fun learning experience.

locking the doors is a good idea, but you'll probably want a more foolproof method like channels or z-level seperation or pressure-triggered floodgates to act as emergency bulkheads or something.

Cog is the embodiment of all things every dwarf inspires to be.  Some raw recruit who died to something as simple as heat is no Cog.

I'm glad all the DF players are not living in one district. It'd be the most dangerous district for the whole world.
Actually, it'd be the most dangerous district in hundreds of thousands of worlds, starting with 'Xah Rabin' The Dimension of Omen.

Well, the originl Urist was pretty kickass to IMNSHO. One dwarf against the world thread for those of you who know the name but not the origin of it.

I think Urist wound up being everydwarf as people read that story, and then when they looked at their dwarves the name Urist would stand out and it started to seem that Urist was more common than any other dwarf name.  Statistically it may not be, but it is common, and may seem more common than it is.  Plus, it doesn't have any accents in it to screw with forum posting.

Well, he died as a result of an epic wrestling move on the edge of the magma pit - I saw he and another wrestler tumble into the doors and paused it - that was an oh crap moment. I knew one of them would do some fancy-ass show-off flip and pay with their life.

Now that I have a large surplus of cheese makers/fish dissectors (aka goblin fodder), I'm thinking of building a barracks where every other tile is magma. The remaining tiles? Weapon traps.

I have only had 1 Urist in my forts (that last long enough for me to care) and he was a cat.
