[39d] The dreaded +Air Biscuit+
« on: August 08, 2008, 05:41:50 am »

Okay, I'm going to get the jokes out of the way first, then move on to the bug report.

Urist McDwarf cancels Eat: Interrupted by Barking Spider.
If I dropped a cow off my tower, it wouldn't make THIS kind of beef cloud!
I can't tell if this would choke a donkey, a carp ate my last one!

I was setting up food production, and noticed my cook was hauling a barrel.  Since I hadn't started booze production, I realized he must be cooking booze food, and went into the z -> Kitchen menu to turn off booze cooking.  I figured he'd finish up the meal he was working on and start on other food.  Imagine my surprise to see this when I next looked into the kitchen:

There are a number of ways to get null item fields; in particular these involve either playing an older version savegame on a newer version without copying all the data files, or various methods involving modding. Are you on a vanilla game, started on the latest version?

I believe that 39d had the bug where quarry leaves weren't being treated properly when it comes to cooking - they'd get used up but wouldn't get added to the food object as ingredients.  You'd end up with a stack of 25 +biscuits+, etc.

Check to see if that's what's happening here.

Vanilla 39d, new game.

You can extrapolate what happened from the contents of the kitchen.  Two empty barrels, followed by a wine biscuit, then two full barrels, followed by the air biscuit.  The dwarf was already working on cooking when I removed the wine from the cook permissions.  I suppose if he'd grabbed mule meat instead of one of the barrels, they'd be single-ingredient mule meat biscuits.

There was another report related to Bug 562 that doing this just causes the job to cancel silently.  I guess I'll just mess around with it and try to get all the cases sorted out.
