I hope not... if it was used, you'll have one really upset dwarf!

The real question is, if it is possible, how much is the resulting pin-cushion goblin's head worth, and could I mod the game to mount it on a stake outside the main entrance.

On the Wall is a Masterfully engraved carving of Urist McHardcastle and Goblins. Urist McHardcastle is surrounded by the Goblins. The Golbins are stamping on Urist McHardcastle. Urist McHardcaste is laughing at the Goblins. The carving related to the prolonged and bloody death of Urist McHardcastle in the Fall of 1659, the Winter of 1659, and the Spring of 1660. On the engraving is an image of Cheese.

1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

Yes, then you can have every master metalcrafter or setter in your fort tantrum after losing 5 masterpiece decorations per bolt, rather than one going mad on the first artifact one shot.

Just pump out more, that's the solution.

1 of 100 going to hell does not bother them.
1 of 5 will make them go mad.

Is that how it works? It's based on how many masterpieces they have made already?

If it was possible though, that ammo would be indestructible since its an artifact, so technically it could be collected after it's been fired.  I don't know what happens to ammo if it hits its target.  Does it disappear?

If this all doesn't fix it, your dwarfs are lazy. Apply magma.
"And thereafter, all dwarven children were taught to mind their stools, lest the toilet-fiends snatch their souls from their bottoms"
Try rubbing a cat on it, that seems to help.

Yeah. Most of my forts have as many dorfs as possible cranking out crafts nonstop. Once, just to see if I could kick off a tantrum spiral I tried chasming a couple thousand bins full of mostly masterwork cloth crafts (meaning that each bin has tons and tons of items since cloth crafts don't take up much room, and each item potentially has up to three masterworks from weaving, dyeing, and clothesmaking). In spite of "A masterwork of Urist McDorf has been lost!" x10000 I don't think anyone went below ecstatic.
