Looking for some added violence
« on: August 02, 2008, 01:12:19 pm »

I heard there was a trick to getting the goblins and Kobolds to stop sending snatchers and theives and only send seiges. Since I'm running out of metal, I need some victims to donate their hard-crafted goods for melting. Now, I know you're going to tell me to delete some such tag, but my questions are what tag, and where is the thing that I need to alter in the first place?

Sorry, removing the tag doesn't work in the latest version, like it used to. The tag is [BABYSNATCHER], I believe. or that could just be for worlds generated without the babysnatcher tag. Regardless, it has been reported that the removal of the tag makes goblins not go to war with anyone. You could try it anyway.

As for kobolds, just leave some semi-valuable crud around. Eventually a kobold will steal it and you'll have an ambush just about every other year. I don't think they carry much metal, though.

Dang. Any other ways to increase the violance and carnage? It's been 3 years since my first (and last) seige, and I figure that having a 1,000,000 worth fortress having NOBODY attacking it is kinda weird.

It has been reported that the humans will send a siege if you kill their diplomat person.

Not sure about the elves.

If you REALLY want violence you could cause a massive tantrum spiral  :P

Supposedly, removing the [BABYSNATCHER] tag and adding [SIEGER] to the entity_default, then replacing [INTELLIGENT] with [CAN_CIV][CAN_LEARN] in the creature_standard file will make whatever race you do this to siege you.

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

Try giving dwarves [BABYSNATCHER].  I think that'll make everyone else attack you in fortress mode.

I can tell you from personal experience that the elves will siege you if you kill enough of their caravans.

You don't even need to add in [SIEGER] in the entity_default file, the goblins attack just fine without it.

Removing [INTELLIGENT] and replacing it with the other two tokens gives them identical properties as kobolds have, and kobolds are always hostile in dwarf mode, even if they're at peace on the embark screen. Also, check the legends screen. It seems without the [INTELLIGENT] flag goblins cannot communicate with anyone else, thus get in wars all the time...though in this case an active war isn't even needed.

I've had a 90% success rate with this on various generated worlds, and the only failures to have goblins siege were on forts I played for very short times. Most likely I simply just didn't play the fort long enough to get a siege. Some sieges are in the first year, some in the second or even third year. Its random. But once they start, they don't stop. Glorious carnage!

Though I think you'll want to strip the goblins naked in the entity_default file. I have mine use weapons and shields only, otherwise the cleanup task would never get done before the next siege arrived.

Yeah, I made every race only use metal objects for weapons and clothes.

That way I have tons of iron for trading with dwarves and making my own weapons.

My current plan is to have a communist fort, with 45 workers that have every labor enabled, and then every other immigrant (all 155 other dwarves) will be full-time soldiers. I'm gonna need lots of armor and stuff.

I also made my dwarves have a much better unarmed attack: they can now stab and slash, as if they all carry shanks with them, heheh.

Well, my need for foreign iron has been obviated by a discovery of a huge patch of iron in the deeps. While I would like to have found that flux I thought I saw (I started this one before the site-finder worked), this surfeit of iron suits my purposes beautifully.

Now, I just want seiges so I'm not bored and dealing with moody-ass dwarves.

I'm just gonna move that hyphen so it gives people bad thoughts:
