Does all those animals have a heavy effect on the performance?
I tend to butcher often just to be on the safe side, but that also means i can't have fun with critters

It does seem to have quite a noticeable effect on performance now that I have this many animals. With the 2190 animals, I have about 8 FPS. If I drop all but 130 of the animals and do not allow their remains to be hauled, my FPS increases to about 24.

Current project involves colonizing a major river, water wheels, and decorative axles and gears.

I really need to upload my map of Mistcavern, though, that was a nice one I did recently. Colonized a bottomless pit so that I had a 3-wide bridge across the pit which enemies had to come through, while being pelted by crossbow bolts.

8 fps? And here i though 20 was slow.
So one Fps loss per 128 animals if math can be applied and thus i find it reasonable.
Now i just gotta figure out something to have fun with...
200 wardogs maybe?

This one's 3 GHz, dual-core (not that it matters much); but I do have temperature disabled at the moment, and I've trimmed my dwarves down to 104, so that might help. My embark area seems to have been 4x3 squares.

30x30 tower with outer walls out of gold surrounded by magma.
Took so long time that I was questioning myself quite a few times "why am i still doing this?"

I remember. Impressive.  Where did you get that much gold?

The map was a very rich on Gold and I imported with every trader.
Just a pity they did not have and 40+ gems to trade.

I've been buying and breeding every species of animal I can get my hands on and so far have a total of 2190 animals, and I'm going to drop them all at once from a platform on the second-highest z-level of my map, which is 20 levels above the ground.

Does that sort of count as a kind of twisted megaproject?

Trying to get into the fastfood busniess?

Nope. Just wants his dwarves to eat *Donkey Biscuits* for the rest of time.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

I have a megaproject, but i don't want to spill the beans yet seeing that i'm still kinda figuring out how to go about making it.
