[39e] Murky pool tiles permanently spewing water
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:05:19 pm »

Now of course, the solution to this problem is to dig them away, which I will. But the main problem stays, I've got an area which is constantly flooding about because this murky pool I digged in to keeps refilling.

Edit:
Apparently, rain is causing this.

Thats the refill code to make the murky pools refill. It's intended.

I like it personally, it allows you to use murky pools as a water source in areas where you don't have a river. One of my forts has a reservoir under a murky pool, the pool catches the rain and it drains into the reservoir and the sick dwarves have plenty of water to care for them. I even get enough extra water to waste it on things like making obsidian.

Murkey pools will now refill?

Meaning i could setup a system connecting it to a Room underneath it to hold water?

They don't release a lot of water, the murky pools take a few seasons of rainfall to fully refill when emptied, but they will eventually fill an underground cistern if you connect them to one - as long as it isn't too big, too big of a surface area and the water will remain at 1s and evaporate. What I did was dig out the floor in the center of the murky pool and make a reservoir below it, just big enough for the water already in the pool to spread out to 2s and 3s. After that, when it started to rain it would form 1's of water and eventually go to 2's and start trickling down into my reservoir. Over the course of a few seasons it had the reservoir and the pool above full, then I connected it to my fort with a well system right by my dining room and it flowed in there. Another few seasons and it was back to 7s and the pool was refilled again. You can't do it all at once or it will simply make a big area of 1s and evaporate to nothing.

They just gain a little bit of water every time it rains, and it probably depends on things like temperature and rainfall settings of the area you're embarking on.
