Something that I think would be cool would be if when something was encased in ice or obsidian, you could recover it by digging into the block. It would also be cool if a dwarf or pet was encased in ice, then you could dig out there ice encased body and use it as a statue.

P.S. It would be cool if statues were more specific, like iron dog statue, not just iron statue.

Statues are planned to eventually have the same characteristics of engravings or artifacts. Many of them will probably be giant statues of cheese...

About the eponymous suggestion, I'm happy with the insta-death. Ice needs to take its time before it solidifies, but people can't vibrate their bodies like a jackhammer. Would that they could.

Well, occasionally moving one's arms and legs should break up ice as it forms.

As for the statues, maybe they'll only be of things that would be statue-compatable. Statues of artifact doors would be a lot of fun, though. And food. Stavation chamber filled with cheese statues, closed off by a door statue, with a statue of your mayor there to hear the dwarf's concerns.
