Both miners were wounded when a floor crashed. They were carried then into beds for healing. Each of them had still a copper pick in one of their hands. I disabled their mining jobs but there was no way to pick the tools up until the miners waked up.

I had no more copper picks and no free pick for mining ore. At least some narrow-metal-stuff showed up later but one of the miners was already up again when the first pick was created.

No save. Sorry. Next time i'll make a copy.

Never tried this before, but you can try marking their picks to be dumped, wait for the picks to be removed by other dwarves, then reclaim them.

This usually works.

When writing the post i was thinking about your above-mentioned way. But then i realized that it is just a workaround. But i will do it that way if it is necessary again. (Although i do not allow that such a mistake happens again) Thx for help.
