So, I playd the adventurer. The events were as follows: Party1 asked me to kill giant1, I kill it, Party2 asked me to kill giant 2, I kill it.

The legends for adventurer shows:
  blah-blah-blah... killed giant1.
  blah-blah-blah... become mercenary for party1.
  blah-blah-blah... killed giant2.
  blah-blah-blah... become mercenary for party2.

It doesn't give you any affiliation until the task is completed or you report and it's a failure (because it died when you weren't there) at this point.  This'll probably change naturally as some of the new dev items come in.
