I bought another "Undead" Jaguar and it came to have some cubs... Those also had the internal injuries like their parents so I have come to the conclusion that they have gotten cronical damage of the contact with the elfs and that this isn't undead animals...

Still i just can't get a good grip of why Toady One made them this way...

(P.S. If you read this Toady please answer ::))

I think elves beats animals by wooden clubs with cloth wound around. Animal skin is rather thick, so it not easy to leave traces on it. They also refrain from breaking bones. It allows to keep animals in marketable condition and maintain friends-of-nature image.

Whenever I buy empty cages from Elves, theres a high chance that I find an animals corpse inside. Un-rotten of course so at least they are sill usable for meat and leather.

But still a nasty surprise. no wounded or zombie creatures yet.

When any traders visit you in a cold or hot place, check the stocks screen. You can dump the corpses in their cages free of charge and get the meat, bones and skins. You don't get fat or skulls unless it dies on your fortress map though.

Always ask for pets on glaciers.  ;)

Well the pets bought from elfs are indeed useful, take the jaguars - they reproduce like cats, help little during attacks (as a distraction mostly but it attacks enemys) and do not make pets, a great trait since animals should be the main course and not the company in the dining room...
