Sticky Socks, Internal Socks?
« on: July 25, 2008, 08:50:06 pm »

I think my goblins are eating socks before battle. Spider silk, it does the body good?

One sock seems to stick with bodies and appear after they rot away. I noticed this after hauling a bunch of goblin bodies to an outside refuse pile, and then noticing a big pile of socks in with the bones and skulls. Each body produces 1 sock along with the bones and skull. There doesn't seem to be a way to get the sock out of the body until after it rots away.

I haven't checked to see if dwarven bodies leave extra socks upon rotting, because so far this fort has had 0 deaths (although now that I say that, I'm sure a massacre to end all massacres will occur).

If it matters, the corpses that I noticed this specifically on were from a couple ambush parties that found their way into my fortress. Every single one rotted away to leave 6 bones, a skull, and a sock of either giant spider silk or spider silk.

Whenever a creature wearing clothing is killed, one piece of clothing always stays on the body.  For some reason, the RNG overwhelmingly favors socks for this, but I've also seen other pieces of clothing and even iron armor stay on the body.  If you a refuse pile that takes corpses, your dwarves will strip off this one piece of clothing as soon as they deposit the body there.

When dealing with multi-bp items (some clothing/2h weapons), it would skip the final item index, and that's often a sock I guess, he he he.  Fixed for next time.

I was dumping them in refuse piles but they weren't coming out till the body rotted.

One of my dwarves died and had a shoe drop out of the corpse when it rotted. The funny thing is the dead dwarf's wife had ownership of it, but never got it until the body rotted. Afterward she went into the tomb and nabbed it.
