[39b-e] No more very decorative artifacts
« on: July 25, 2008, 12:49:59 pm »

It seems that dwarves use only core material now when constructing an artifact.

In my current fortress it looks like that:

1. Red beryl piccolo - red beryl.
2. Copper bracelet - copper, copper, copper.
3. Iron crown - iron, iron.
4. Felsite cabinet - felsite, felsite.

Beginning from 39b, so far I have never encountered an artifact decorated with something other than the base material. It's somewhat easier (as no one require a shell from me), but more boring.

I too noticed that I was getting an unusual number of chist+chist+chist sort of artifacts, but I'm pretty sure I yesterday had one fairly valuable one that had about seven parts of mostly different materials.

I had a string of single material artifacts in 38c.  I just started a fort in 39e, too early for artifacts.  But it's a proven fact that dorfs live to aggravate players.

OK... Fifth artifact:

5. Palm cage - palm, acacia, palm, red beryl, morganite, felsite, tin.

Somewhat strange... I don't know what to think about it.

I believe it's because the people who hunt for artifacts are less specific now in what they want. When they want 'three stones' they just look for the closest stone and bring it back, and often those kinds of stone are clustered together. The same goes for many other materials which are usually grouped together; ie. metals.

Yeah, I just got an iron iron iron jelly opal ring.

Would be nice if it forced a bit of variety (if possible, choose a different material of the same variety).
