LOTR Online
« on: July 23, 2008, 12:35:38 am »

Anyone else play this? I just started about a week ago. I think its pretty good, to me the real fun is in roleplaying. I like my dwarf heh. Wondering if there is a dwarf fortress community on one of the servers.

Ive tried it, since I really like Tolkien's world. The problem is that theres no PvP in the game. So Ive bought Age of Conan now, but I got already bored by it. MMORPGs... ::)

I played the free trial.  The PvP seems cool at first, but it quickly shows that there's a reason WoW has bad graphics.  In a large fight, the game immediately slows to a crawl unless you the graphics are turned way way down.

I played this for a while before getting bored due to it having nothing fun to do by yourself. It was too group based for me.

I roleplay an Elf named Maethoros on the Landroval server. He's an old Sindarin elf and inhabits a cave in Bree-Land with his household retainers. Look me up if you'd like to join in. Also I go on forever about dwarf fortress with people there, especially the dwarven Baruk Khazad clan, but they go eeeeew, ascii. Its a shame because I know those guys would really flip over this game if they gave it a shot.

I'm enjoying it very much and its worth my lifetime sub. I'm very eager to see Moria, although I suppose I need to level up at least one character to 50 to enjoy it.

I should probably have my head checked, because I find myself in complete agreement with Nikov.

Nikov, I will look you up for sure. I have got a few people in The House of Gembeards (all dwarf rp) on Landroval to try Dwarf fortress..they have all but stoped playing LOTR heh. At any rate my main character is a dwarf named Thulalin, I also play as a man toon sometimes, his name is Suth. Look forward to connecting with you.

On a side note:

The game is not to difficult to solo, all group quests are indicated as such, like any MMO there is some need for grouping. PvP is yes, player monsters, so its a little strange but not sure how else it could be handled given the setting, without making it into something cheezy and too much like WoW.

Forgive me for being crass, but why are you judging a Massively-Multiplayer-ORPG based on not being able to play single-player quests?
