Mike Mayday prepack for .39b?
« on: July 15, 2008, 03:09:18 pm »

Could someone kindly put together a pre-pack version of the Mark Mayday graphics and tileset for the latest version? I can't seem to figure it out myself. Alternately, a good link to a site explaining how to install graphics sets would be appreciated. Thanks.

bump, I also really would like to know how to install these graphics, I've become so used to them that the game is almost unplayable without them. I tried copying the old files the way mentioned in another thread here and changing the ini file but I couldn't get it to work. Thanks in advance.

The instructions on the other threads only tell you how to replace one of the tileset files.  Their are tiles in the \raw\graphics\example folder for the creatures.  The \data\art\square_16x16.bmp is the tileset used for the walls and other structural items.  This is the one (I'm pretty sure) that you put in the data\init\init.txt file.

I think for the creature icons you have to copy \raw\graphics\graphics_example.txt from an old version of Mike's DF install.  I do not, however, know if it will work since Toady may have changed any or all of the config options.

The key configuration (z level change using "/" and "*") is easy enough to change in the game under key bindings.

It really is kind of a pain to use other tiles since they aren't all located in one tileset file that can easily be swapped out or loaded by name.

Graphics options are NOT changed.
Basically if you click on any of the graphic tileset in wiki you usually get a text to put in your graphics_***.txt file.
Or they provide a replacement for graphics_example.txt.
It's quite easy: graphic sets are bmp images and txt files link profession names to every tile you use.

Thanks a lot guys, got it to work now. I just copied the raw/graphics files (and also data/art but I don't think that made a difference) and changed the ini file. Peace aut.

Actually data/art has the bmp files with character tiles.
You can set which one do you use in data/init/init.txt.

I, myself, happen to be an illiterate when it comes to this sort of thing. I could manage break .ini entries if they weren't so thoroughly explained. I'm having trouble piecing together the useful info I need to know, here.

Could anyone point me to a step-by-step? I'd give you a pig tail sock.

After extensive (and mind-numbing interpretation) on another thread, I think I can do that for you:
  • Obtain one of Mike's older clients if you deleted your copy already.  (It's easier than telling you how to do it Wiki method)
  • Copy the .\raw\graphics folder to the new client
  • Copy the .\data\art folder to the new client
  • Edit .\data\init\init.txt in Notepad
  • Find and replace "curses_square_16x16.bmp" with "square_16x16.bmp"
  • Find and replace "[GRAPHICS:NO]" with "[GRAPHICS:YES]"
  • Save and Exit .\data\init\init.txt
If you want to make the keys the same (using numpad / and * for z level changes):
  • Edit .\data\init\interface.txt in Notepad
  • Find and replace "[CURSOR_UP_Z:SHIFT+COMMA]" with "[CURSOR_UP_Z:DIVIDE]"
  • Find and replace "[CURSOR_DOWN_Z:SHIFT+PERIOD]" with "[CURSOR_DOWN_Z:MULTIPLY]"
  • Save and Exit .\data\init\interface.txt

Hopefully that gets you up and running in no time flat.

That worked! Thanks  ;D

Somebody should post that on the wiki page. :)
