Criminals
« on: July 19, 2008, 07:33:45 am »

I've taken a quest from a town and after returning to tell them about it no one wanted to talk to me anymore. I've looked around some and the whole civ doesn't talk to me anymore. After retiring him and looking the character up in the legends screen it told me he is a former member/mercenary and a criminal now. It's a little annoying as he's gotten pretty strong by now and I've bought quite good armor / weapons (Not even in that town though, and not stolen as I could leave without problems when I bought it)

Is there any way to reverse the criminal status? I kind of don't want to travel to another civ because the civ I chose has the perfect spot with megabeasts and goblins all around them. Lots of neat quests!

If it's not possible to regain the member status ingame, is there a way to do it with changing a file or two?

You can leave without problems when you steal things, in my experience as a petty thief (unintentional, still learning interface quirks). You don't find out until the next time you talk to someone.

You don't actually OWN the item until the money symbols disappear.
So don't leave until they do.

If you sneak out of the shop without anyone seeing you, you can escape unhindered. Otherwise, guards will attack you on sight - though the ethic is "PUNISH_SERIOUS", I don't suppose the guards will understand the difference from "PUNISH_CAPITAL"...

Some humans took over a gobbo fort; when I stole somebody's shoe, I was punished capitally;

My body was impaled on a steel spear after I was shot by about five marksmen.

It really sucked.

Hell, when you consider how much damage a shoe can do, its like stealing a WMD.
