Fullscreen mode and other stuff...
« on: March 13, 2002, 09:11:00 am »

First of all I am still getting 15-16 frames per second whether I use progressive meshes or not.Tried switching to "jog" mode to see if that would at least make my little red ogre run faster but no dice.

Second:When switching to fullscreen mode all of those nifty buttons (Inventory, travel, options etc.) stop working properly."Spam-clicking" them either brings up the help or combat options but I have no way to access the other options (through clicking anyways).

Third:Are the races/species which are in there right now going to be what we see in the final version?I appreciate thinking outside the box and I wouldn't mind if there are or are not Elves, dwarfs and the like but some of the things in there now seem a little...well,...almost like they were create with a "random species creator" that takes a random adjective or terrain type from a list (like "red" or "Brush") and combines it with a random creature type ("Squirrel" or "Demon") to come up with the player character species. This kind of reminds me of certain roguelikes which allow you to play all sorts of crazy (and non-sentient) things like skeletons and zombies. How will game balance work if we can play anything from a Titan to a box of crackers?

Four:My Red ogre was a novice at "rabbit style ogre boxing"...hehe.

...and he died a novice.

Five: What is the address for that site of X's that you were talking about(Warsong or something like that?)

Six:If a heroin-addicted gutterpunk died with a needle in his arm and a dildo in his ass,but no one was around to vomit, would the geared for mass audience pop-punk scene even take notice?

(taking advantage of your invitation to talk G.G. without Tom policing us)

Seven:"Rationalism" as an attribute? How does that work in a universe full of various demons, goblins and such killing each other for the amusement of an omnipotent, omniscient (but thankfully not omnibenevolent) deity said to be responsible for creating said universe?
(That was dripping with sarcasm wasn't it?)

1)  That's weird...  the number of triangles must not be a bottle-neck on your computer.  I'll have to think of something else.  If you put your ogre in "fastest sprint" mode would it run faster?

2)  Other people have had this problem too.  It's one of those things that works fine on my computer and nobody else's.  I'll have try and implement full-screen a different way and hope that works out better.

3)  Those aren't the final races -- I just wanted to try out my random species generator :)  The races on the left are the same every game (but by no means the final races), and the races on the right are generated completely randomly.  You'll also notice if you read the description for humans in the status screen that they are completely messed up.  I still need to add a an editor to make the "stock" races.  The random races will still be around, and I'll have to try different ways of balancing them out (by making a routine to examine their overall abilities and assigning them a "power" number and so on).

4)  He he.  I think the only way I've managed to get decent skills in the game right now are to attack creatures of my species (which are always friendly), or taking on Norway Rats with a titan.  It really isn't supposed to be playable yet.  There just isn't anything interesting enough in the game to structure it right now.

5)  http://freespace.virgin.net/martin.packman/

I'm not sure who Martin Packman is.  X's name is X.

6)  Did I phrase it as an invitation?  Whoops.  But in any case, I doubt it -- although early GG bizarrely pop songs like "Girls are Unpredictable" might have made his death more noticeable to that scene, even if he weren't so well-known to begin with.

But I guess gutterpunks die like that all the time in Seattle.  At least I've met some candidates.  I doubt anyone would notice them.

Fullscreen mode and "other stuff"...  he he he...  6 year olds shouldn't be playing Armok, so they probably shouldn't read this board, right?

7)  Well, if the demons exist it would still kinda fit with Empiricism and all that.  Armok would still be amused though -- all the more so because they take it seriously.  But doesn't it say "Rationality"?  That's what I meant...  meaning processing power.  I would have used "Intelligence" but that steps on the other attribute names.

Yeah, my parents were hippies. It was a choice between 'X' and 'FlowerChildOfTheSun'. I think I came out best this way.  :)
