Siliceous Oooze... on the beach!
« on: July 16, 2008, 08:17:35 pm »

This is on a map that's 179 Zs tall. I used a custom map to paint level 400 terrain south of here and a -100 terrain (ocean trench) in a line, then a desert I embarked too across from there.

Ah yes, wet siliceous ooze.  As opposed to dry siliceous ooze.

It would be cool if the ooze formed an entire z-level, or even more. I would love to carve a fortress out of ooze.

That would be called "Chert", sir.

When people say 'paint' and that they are 'painting things in a line' - they mean they are playing with the numerical values, yes? It almost sounds as if they are using some sort of program to draw a map, sometimes.

They ARE drawing the map. It's the WorldGen map editor.

Design New World with Parameters -> press e -> press p.

I second that. Now, to find a thread explaining how to /use/ that, so I can finally get sillacious ooze stuff. Muhahaha. (Perhaps a sillacious ooze beach bordering a glacier, mmmm)

179 Z-levels? I might be able to manage 50, but 179? That's insane!

Okay; the painting tool works like this;

On the right are the various things you will be painting; Elevation, Rainfall, Temperature, Savagery, Drainage, and Volcanic Activity.

First of all, click on the words "Currently Painting" underneath all the items to turn them off. Then, choose what you want to paint and turn it on. Then you can click on the value thing and type in the value of the thing you're painting. Then just left click on the map to draw that object. If you're in Specific View (you can't see what it will look like in-game) press Enter to see the grassy hills etc.

Basically, do this for each thing; you can choose to randomise certain parts (click on the words "Will be saved" for this) if you want to. When you're done, press space, then press space again, and Enter to generate your new world.
