the rare bronze colossus
« on: June 15, 2010, 10:51:50 pm »

i have discovered that the bronze colossus is by far the best training mechanism in the adventurer game

i have went from 0 skills in westling at all, to legendary in roughly 10 moves. i currently need 26,000 expierience to the next legendary level

i attacked it with my axe and now that legendary + quite a bit

now any advice on killing it?

I got from no experience to Legendary Wrester and Fighter after about 5-7 moves with a cyclop. It wasn't even a real wrestling, he just grabbed me by my bronze low boot and I tried to excape from him.

Shame that isn't the best indicator of actually killing a Bronze Colossus (or indeed any creatures without organs and whatnot); it could be all red and still be as close to dying as it was before you gave it all those wounds.
Only a critical hit that manages to kill it in one go really works against things like those. That, or throwing light stuff at it.
[I'm not entirely sure myself, having not had much experience with the myriad varieties of Fun this game can throw at you. But the above is what I've been able to gather.]

There are numerous stories of people knocking all the arms and legs off, leaving just a head and torso that has been completely reduced to red health. It's going from there that is difficult; unless you sever the head, you won't kill it, and the only reliable (fluffy wamblers are not reliable :P) method so far seen is Slade weapons.

Just for some perspective, the only SEVERABLE parts on a BC are the hands, feet, nose, and ears.  After viewing this thread, I did a savescum on a caged BC I had in fortress mode - 14 adamantine-kit legendary axedwarves, one wielding an artifact adamantine axe, went at it for 45 minutes (before I got bored and closed it) without doing much of anything.  The BC had lost hands, feet, nose and ears,  and all but five of my axedwarves were out of commission with injuries.  They won't die unless you roll a REALLY good combat chance.  It's probably something like one in a million, if not more.
