(39b) Secretive Mood->Artifact Quern->LegendaryMiner?
« on: July 17, 2008, 04:23:48 pm »

I just had one of my starting 7 with Mining/Masonry/Stone Detailing/Gem Cutting jobs enabled go into a Secretive Mood.  However when he finished his Chert Quern he gained legendary Mining.  Why is a rock quern part of Mining skill?  I know the wiki states a Miner will use either Craftsdwarf or Mason's workshops but still I find it rather strange that Mining is a mood skill at all.

Are you complaining about getting a free Legendary Miner?!

You, sir... You...

I am hereby revoking your Dwarfhood. You have one hour to shear off and relinquish your beard or you will be Hammered.

As I recall, no matter the artifact made, doesn't the mood increase your highest trade skill (which seems to include mining and engraving)?

It isn't always your highest trade skill, but it tends to be. Artifacts will always be relevant if they can; no one ever got a master mechanic out of a Unicorn Bone Spear. But as a Miner creates nothing, his artifact will be any old thing.

This is an olivine mined out space. All worksdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of nitrogen, oxygen and argon. The object menaces with spikes of dwarven sweat. On the item is an image of a cave lobster in water vapor. The cave lobster is making a plaintive gesture.

His next highest skill was engraving and legendary engraver (although eventually just as inevitable) is far more useful to ME early on in a fortress.  No more leaving stone undetailed to avoid all the -- ++ tiles.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.
