For those people who want to respect their dwarven nobility just a little bit more... I had a conversation with the dwarven queen of a big civilization:

Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I am the leader of The Tufted Girder.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I was a hunter of beasts for thirty-one of my years.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I have taken down four cougars while stalking The Hill of Oil.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: It is I that felled Controlwipes the cougar.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: It is I that felled Sprayedpurge the cougar.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I have taken down six wolves while stalking The Hill of Oil.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I have taken down twenty-two muskoxen while stalking The Hill of Oil.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I have taken down twenty-six horses while stalking The Hill of Oil.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I have taken down twenty-four elk while stalking The Hill of Oil.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I have taken down nineteen rhesus macaques while stalking The Hill of Oil.
Solon Ustuthtolis, Queen: I have taken down twenty-three groundhogs while stalking The Hill of Oil.

The elves were too busy eating the corpses of the last few wars over their attitude to eating the bodies of sentient beings to take time out to save their furry friends.

I found one dwarf (after snooping about in legendary for a while) who had gotten 882 wildlife kills mostly due to wandering around the wilderness. Dude really hated animals.
