It probably got out of the river. They kind of "drown" in air.

Also, if its lungs pack in underwater it says "drowned" instead of suffocated.

Old, and only grammar related.
If they get out of the water by some means, they "drown."
If their lungs (fish have gills, not lungs -.-) get damaged, they "drown."
If a murky pool gets flooded, they "drown" by some means.  I'm drawing a blank on which bug # that is, but it's already been reported and acknowledged.

I was just about to report this as a bug myself when I saw about 20 carp all drown at once, not something I have noticed before...carp "drowning" might just be a problem with the grammar, but all the fish leaving the water or getting lung damage at once seems a bit fishy, possibly something in the new version making it happen more often. (Or im wrong and this happened a lot before, I didnt play much adventure mode before this release)

Maybe it's the same suicidal mood that affect caveman and other cave guys who always fall into the chasm when an adventurer wander in the area, even if they live around the chasm everyday.
