Oh deary deary me.
« on: July 15, 2008, 10:19:33 am »

I just waltzed into a dark fortress and was received with open arms. Seemed normal, there were a bunch of dwarves with dwarf names around. Couple goblins too, but i figured they must have stuck around and lived with the dwarves. Recruited a couple of the more adventurous dwarves.

Then i found out that this was the capital. Strange, there was a single large set of mountain halls just to the west. Then i meet the local leader, who is a goblin swordmaster. Curiouser and curiouser. He gives me a quest to kill a titan with a pretty applicable name: Ulux Oakenscribe the Ancient of Age, who had apparently killed two in her bloodlust. Talked to the goblin about the capital (here) and was told that Stozu Skullsweltered the Demon is here.

I go up a couple of stairs and am greeted by a big glow red &, who proceeds to ask me to slay the same titan as the goblin did.

Oh deary deary me. So thats why that one guy was wearing a dwarf bone ring.

I just found some friendly goblins! Well, theres actually more dwarves than goblins.

This is a disturbingly common occerrence of late.  I've tried generating three or four different worlds, but I have been unable to find a "hostile" goblin fortress yet.  Everybody's at peace.

In fact, just finding a quest has proven quite difficult.  One of my adventurers went to seven or eight towns in a row without getting a quest.  All of the towns were "untroubled".  When I finally received a quest, it was to kill a Titan which was on the exact opposite side of the world!

I believe it's because the goblins are not currently waging any war with your civilization. And if they propably won't until the next release.

You can still start up a war yourself, right? I imagine if you attack the goblins, the dwarves won't actually care.

Well the thing is, the other goblin civ (i found with another adventurer) was very hostile. See, that dwarf civ over there had a captured dark fortress. But a couple other dark fortresses were visible too, so i figured they must also belong to these dwarves.

Nope. Stepped in and instantly got pincuishioned with arrows from a female human ranger with a goblin name. My loyal companions got killed too, cept the speardwarf who passed out behind a tree from arrow related injuries.

You can still start up a war yourself, right? I imagine if you attack the goblins, the dwarves won't actually care.
The problem is that at least half (probably all, but the speardwarf i recruited wasn't a native) of the dwarves there belong to the goblin civ. T'would be more of a dwarves and goblins vs me war since they can't send out armies in regular play yet.

Well, there are alternatives. The elves in the world I just genned are having some sort of civil war. Every time I enter a forest home I can't move for all the mahogany arrows flying around. If I could figure out who was fighting and why I might even pick a side.

Well, I had a world where the humans had enslaved the elves.
I did a couple quests for one town, then I got a quest:

As you know, we are at war. Go to town Blah and kill Nine Jawmasters (that's a name, not a rank).

So, I go there. Anyways, the humans there seem friendly, they even give me quests. However, the elves attack me. Except one.

I recruit the spearelf, and we go on eviscerating the elves. Later on, I ask the spearelf about his family. It appears he had killed his little brother for attacking me.

He friggin' killed his brother. For attacking a total stranger. Nice.

I made a little tour of the Dark Fortresses. In the first one, I found an Elf Thief. When I asked his profession, he said he "rescued lost children and brought them to the fortress." I also picked up a goblin wrestler.

At the next fortress, I found a Human Prisoner. When I tried to recruit her, she said "Yes, take me away from here!" The other citizens of the fortress didn't try to stop me. Then her job title changed to "Child." Turns out she was only three years old. After plowing through a hundred or so messages about who married who in her family tree, she said she had some family in this one human city.

I made it my personal quest to find her cousin in the big city, and see if I could unload the kid. If I can't actually get an NPC to adopt her, I'll just retire there.

I wonder about my goblin companion. I'll see what happens if a goblin settles down in a human city.

Well, if you rescue a prisoner currently he/she becomes your personal meatshie... companion. For now you can't "unload" thembut the note about them being rescued appears in legends.

I wonder if it's possible to putter around in adventure mode until the children grow up. Hmm.

I one time had an army of 5 children/prisoners that I rescued from a friendly goblin town.  I then decide to lead them into battle against the goblin town that took them captive.  I attacked a golbin ranger and first time I completely miss and he bashes me into the ground. I stand up and attack him again and miss again and watch as the goblin ranger  kills me.  The children then proceed to sit there at wander around my corspe as if nothing happened.

Gather a band Beyond Thunderdome style, retire somewhere, burn 10 years in fortress mode, then reactivate him.  This will be a great test of the new system.

Don't companions disperse when you retire?
