[39b]Joining war battles makes both sides hostile(Adventure Mode)

One time, as a human, there were elves that were battling humans in their town.  I attacked and kill a elf and it made both sides hostile towards me.

Is this a bug?

Theres no actual wars outside of worldgen yet, so the nature of the conflict was probably more complex.

Like, that was an elf overlord in a conquered human town, or a deported elf living in a new-found town.
If you can remember the name of the elf, you could look it up in legends.

It could be an elf fighting for the humans. Humans turned on you for killing their ally, elves turned on you for killing their kin.

There's no such thing as battles in Adventure Mode yet. What that was was a normal town. You wandered up at sworded an elf immirgrant in the face, and all the other citizens (Human and Elf) decided to make Adventurer Hamburger.
