[39a] weird, possibly buggy, history events
« on: July 15, 2008, 06:27:59 am »

The overagressive elves have been noted, but the bigger problem is their human wave tactics and high losses. In the fifth war between elves and goblins, lasting 126-156, 2485 elves died, while goblins lost in battle 4 goblins and the demon. It started with 7 goblins and the demon in the last goblin civ site being attacked by elves. Goblins didn't die in battle, just of natural causes, until at the end they were overwhelmed by yearly 250+ elf attacks.

The demon and goblins each had 600+ kills.

Checking other worlds, such losses appear typical for elves against humans, too - in a world lasting till 5000, elves lost 50+ a year attacking a human town with less than thirty inhabitants for thousands of years.

It's funny when they get those ridiculous losses but 'the attackers won'.

Also funny when every soul but one of the defenders die, but 'the defenders won'. "Wait, wha?"

Obviously all the elves are dying of thirst midbattle because they refuse to use waterskins, they take 250 guys because 230 of them are needed to make a elfline back to a water source, but a croc kills the last guy and they don't have a back up plan, then the demon and goblins just need to wander along the line smacking the prone elves to take credit for the kill.

Only problem with that theory is that elves are 'at one with nature' and crocs wouldn't attack them.

Then why do my elves always have *huge* lists of other kills that are nothing but the wildlife?

Cuz toady didn't fix elf worldgen adventurers not to attack/kill wildlife yet.

Quickly, to the Batforum!

Were the elves with the wildlife kills still part of elven civilizations or were they kidnap victims or subjects under humans/dwarves?

The high kills often happen for the last defenders of a site, because they tend to have very high skills.  It doesn't yet do anything with large numbers on small numbers like "surrounded" bonuses or anything like that, so the highly skilled final defenders tend to chew up the waves of attackers as they kill them in 1-1 duels.
