[39b] Is it just me or... (engravings)
« on: July 16, 2008, 11:44:40 am »

I don't remember this being mentioned anywhere, though I could expect something like this to appear because of all the additions to history, but...

Why is it that all of the engravings I see in adventure mode are of items or creatures, not historic events? I haven't tried fort mode yet.

Because all the engravings that you can find in worldgenned towns were made when the town was, and so would have been before any real historical events.
Fortress Mode engravings that YOU make will be different.
The dwarves are laboring.
The dwarves are burning.
The dwarf is in a fetal position.
The wagon is falling.
The hydra is making a plaintive gesture.  The dwarf is laughing.
The dwarf is making a plaintive gesture.  The hydra is laughing.
Etc.

I understand the differences between fort and adventure mode.

But I distinctly remember at least the founding of the town being mentioned in engravings and item images.

However, now, all I see are descriptionless squares, muck roots, humans, and local deities, not only on engravings, but on all items in shops as well. Even the entity and group symbols do not show up.

edit: false alarm, finally found a few items with events on them. It's still odd, most temples I inspected before had nothing but meaningless images on their walls.

Hi!

I am afraid that answer is not complete. Not all towns are created in year 1 of world creation (one town I checked in legends because it saw a megabeast rampage in 1046 or so had been founded in 704 - and it was not the last town founded.

However, while playing in dwarf mode, I noticed that historic engravings seem to be relatively rare.

Well, I finally found items with historic events on them in shops. Maybe I got unlucky before.

Or..

Or maybe it isn't a coincidence that this is the first world I generate that doesn't have "uncover all historic events" enabled?
