I download 39a open it and play it, generate a small world and designate some trees to be chopped down and then go to a peasants job screen and oh no! it is empty! There is nothing to select from the job screen, it is a blank page.

What is the "peasants job screen"?  Is that pressing 'j'?  Or is that 'v' 'p' 'l'?

I think he means it's completely empty.
As in, not even the No Job listing is showing up.
It works fine for me...

Of course they have axes. When I go to select one of the jobs they can do (mining, wood cutting, etc) it is empty. I have never seen this before.

Wait, now are you talking about v p l?  One of the jobs they can do?  Did you mod the entities at all or are you using an old entity_default.txt?  It'll build up the vpl list from the PERMITTED_JOB tokens now.
