Large multi-level mining designation -> framerate plummets

I designated several levels to me mined all at once for Project: Elven Society Collapse.  As soon as I unpaused it afterward, the framerate instantly dropped from nice and fast to unbearably slow.  The framerate drop was immediate, and happened before a single tile of the new designation had been dug.

A quick note - the bottom level had already been designated beforehand when I was searching for gems.  Thus, the whole area designated should have already been allocated in memory, since it was all directly above.

Did the bad frame rate persist after an initial shock?  If so, I'll take a look at the save.

It seemed to, although I stopped playing not that much later.  I'll see about getting a save up in a few minutes...
