Lye bearing item

I'm trying to make soap, and I keep getting an error message that I need a lye bearing item. I HAVE 5 buckets of lye as is, am I doing something wrong? Also, I know I need tallow, and I HAVE tallow.

You need a lye-bearing item ie: something to move the lye to. IIRC an empty bucket should do the trick.

Lye-bearing item means a barrel of lye.  Make sure you have a free barrel, and a stockpile that accepts lye.  They don't recognize buckets of lye as being a lye-bearing item.
