Height and Range for Bows and Crossbows

I think that a unit shooting a bow or crossbow from a higher plane to a lower plane in fortress mode should get a range bonus, and that one shooting a bow or crossbow from a lower plane to a higher one should get a range detriment.  Such an alteration, if implemented, would make good physics sense and would reward players for building higher walls and guard towers.

You are aware that most Dwarven settlements are underground, yes?

True, but almost all of my fortresses have entranceways with second-story fortifications. I agree that this makes sense.

While we're at it, why not give ranged weapons maximum ranges? modified by skill? Make throwing have a maximum range related to the weight of the thrown item?

I'm for it, most of *MY* forts are towers, or castles within huge walls, or flying.

additionally there should be a sight bonus for guys on an elevated level ..
that my dwarfes patrolling inside the watchtower could see the kobold thief trying to sneak across
the 20 tiles wide paved, smoothed and steamrolled plane around my fortress.
