Clothier shops
« on: July 16, 2008, 07:15:15 pm »

This is more of a curiosity question rather than a gameplay question but has anyone noticed in adventure mode that now shops only sell stuff that can only be found or made in the region? Because if that's true then it's awesome.

I generated a arctic wasteland region (mainly glaciers, tundra, and some forests here and there for humans) and clothier shops seems to be full of polar bear leather stuff along with some dog and horse leather stuff here and there.

I wonder how Toady generates the stuff we see in shops.

The nation which dwells in some area uses appropriate materials and types of item (leather from creatures which dwell there, meat/plant from those biomes etc.), that's why you see it. It's not new.

Oh, I guess I didn't notice due to previous versions worlds being quite generic.

Yes, it is done with the world gen.

Here are the params:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just take into account that it can't be completely tundra or completely glacier or otherwise you won't have enough placement points for civs and they would be continually rejected. Also there are no rivers (you might want to enable them again). Oceans and mountains aren't guaranteed although they ussualy appear.

Also. Most civs don't grow too much because they don't expand into tundra or glacier. So your map could end up being too barren for your taste. On the other hand you'll have lot's of megabeasts to vanquish.

Thanks very much. And more on topic, your idea is sound. Areas tend to have items specific to their own boimes
