Stupid question involving cages
« on: July 11, 2008, 06:55:10 am »

I have a cage see and I am dumb enough to be unable to dump it in a lake. I designated the lake as a dumping ground and tried but was unable. could you help?

Okay, several things could be going wrong here, so forgive me if I end up insulting your intelligence.

Have you set up the dump correctly?

you need to place at least two squares like for a pit or pond, one on the water and one on dry land next to it. Then you need to highlight it and actually set the zone as a garbage zone.

A pit or a pond won't be used for dumping, though, but if you set up a garbage dump like a pond your guys will fling stuff into the pit rather than just dump it, I think. I'll test it now.

You don't need to actually place a zone over the pit. If the zone is set next to a channel (full of lava/water, preferably), then the dwarf should stand on the designated zone and throw the item over the edge.

That's my experience, anyway.

But it's easier sometimes to make 2-tile wide zone with 1 tile above the area, I think it helps to decide if there's more than 1 open space nearby (to lower CPU usage and avoid some possible decisio bugs like with pathfinding).
