Surely when it comes to zombies the right weapon is orbital bombardment?  Reducing the entire area to molten glass ought to deal with the problem, in most cases.

The 'exacting replica' from Albion has the point of balance 9cm from the tip... that's nearly 4".

Is that an argument that is isn't an exacting replica?

Yes. But only because it's Albion. :P

The other Albion sword is designed specifically to be manoeuverable

Yes, I believe that's the idea. Strange that.

Actually, this means the blade tends to be thinner, made of lighter steel (yes, it happens!) or altered somewhat from a more typical design.

As for the others, I was referring to a katana without a bo-hi (fuller). Obviously, taking a significant amount of weight out of the katana will make it much better.

Is there always a way to make them superior to western swords or is there a limit? :D

Actually, there is a limit. Put the Western sword in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing. Put the katana in the hands of someone who has never seen one before. I doubt they'll be able to win.

Katana only have a miniscule advantage over comparable Western swords (comparing a katana's cutting power to a zweihander is just stupid, as is comparing its manoeuvrability to a rapier). Problem is, nobody is willing to admit this; they're either the same as Western swords, worse than Western swords, or capable of cutting a tank in two.

WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES THE TRUTH?!

Also, as a random note, it can sometimes be considered impolite to add something to a discussion about swords when the thread has moved on to zombies.

You just don't understand. Besides, it was impolite to derail the sword discussion to zombies. And the topic wasn't even about swords. It's a circle of impolition.

Hehehe... I'm glad someone picked up on the irony.

I approve of your thought processes!

As already noted, curved swords are not for penetrating armor. Plus, Samurai armor was laquered steel. I really don't know how this wooden armor stuff started.

I can clear that one up with a simple answer:

Not everyone you'd see on a battlefield in Japan was a samurai, just like not everyone on a battlefield in Europe was a knight. The vast majority wouldn't be. You don't give every single footsoldier steel armor unless you happen to have so much money and so much steel that you really just feel like throwing both resources away for shits and giggles. Wood armor in this case would sensibly be common, given the availability of wood, bamboo for example... the stuff grows like a weed.

Aye.
Bamboo grow fast, and grow ANYWHERE.

That, and they are easy to make spear and rod.
and construction, and armor, and many other thing!

Bamboo is overpowered (mind replacing the logs of DF with bamboo?)

Bamboo, for example, can be harvested after 5 days if only want a spear. 5. FIVE.

So if something in real life can grow that fast, plump helmets don't seem quite as unrealistic anymore.  ;)

After all, we can't even make weapons out of them.

Removing bamboo on the other hand...

Ever tried uprooting established bamboo? It's nigh impossible.

Get a pet panda?

Yes, that would kill the zombies... but if you bomb all the cities to rubble, where do the survivors live? And if you burn the crops, what do the survivors eat? The answers would be nowhere and nothing if you just blow up everywhere where zombies are.

Survivors?

But that would depend on how widespread the zombies were.  And if space-based weapons are readily available, presumably one also has access to hydroponics and such; it should be possible to recover.  I might point out that not everyone lives in cities, so obliterating them wouldn't destroy all the housing.

Great, that just makes the thought of having bamboo shoved up your finger nail that more unpleasant.

Well, bamboo WAS used for slow torture.
You just tie someone over a bamboo sprout (not on the ground level - it will bend away), and that's like being 'inverse impaled'.
Or bamboo up your fingernail was also used as torture?

By they, that sounds like something elves would do. In fact, it sounds like something elves would LOVE.

Fun fact, masters of the art of the samurai sword do, in fact, do this.
