What changes world gen?
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:16:11 pm »

I wanted to start over on a site from scratch, so I found out my world seed by exporting an image and reading it off the text file that generated, but somehow, the world is different.  What kinds of things could I have changed that might have changed the world that is generated?

The only other thing that matters is the size of the world (e.g. Standard vs. Pocket).

I think different versions of the game change it as well, if its a very old world.

EDIT: custom names change it as well.

Custom names DO NOT change the outcome. That was fixed in a recent version.

Also, some people say that your Operating System has an effect, but I think that's also false.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I just found out that adding the reaction that makes all stones economic changes worldgen.  Apparently it only affects what stuff is in each biome.  Overall the map looks nearly identical, still.  Other mods to raws can likely affect worldgen as well.

I originally reported that different Operating Systems had an effect, but I also discovered that that was false. In my case, the different results were caused by adding the reactions to make all stones economic as happened to Exponent.

So the only things to affect world build are:
World size and
editing raws
