Gikenstagshil, a Hematite Mechanisms
« on: July 02, 2008, 02:14:38 pm »

So my mechanic holed himself up, and I was thinking he might make something awesome with that secretive mood of his. And woop-de-doo, I got a hematite mechanism. What is the point of this? I suppose I could sell it, but wouldn't that piss off the dwarf that made it?

Anyways, what are some of your weirdest constructions from a strange mood?

Grates. Why is it always grates. I mean, if you're going to use expensive aluminum and bones from brutal cave animals and bins full of gems, you'd think you'd come up with something whose primary use is not to be covered in magma or muddy water.

I did once have a child go strange mood, grab up the dragon leather and dragon bones I'd been saving for the occasion of a strange leatherworking mood, drag a bunch of other stuff in as well, and make a very very expensive... shoe.

You can't sell artifacts - the only ways to get rid of them are theft and destruction.

I got an artifact bag once. At least bags, grates, and the like can be built into rooms to raise their values.

I got a cow leather and monkey bone mechanism once. I rigged it up to 10 obsidian shortswords. My walls were stained red.

stick the mechanism in a floodgate or cage trap in a nobles room/tomb.

tell me if that does much or not cause i really am not sure myself. just make sure the mech is in the room items.

Be easier to stick it into a lever.  No other items needed, and you get almost no reaction time if you want to hook something up to it.

Or if you want a king, put it in a bridge. Boosts the road value up very quickly.
Though I did this accidentally, no idea how easy it would be to reproduce.

IIRC, the rumor that mechanism quality increases reaction time isn't true.

I've only heard one person say that so far, though, so I'm not really sure.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

We need another "mechanism" thread...  The old one's gotten dusty.

mechanisms are a great artifact. The make killer traps, if you have plenty of buildable artifacts, and if you don't they make great value-raising furnishings. They are in my opinion pretty much the best artifact excepting perhaps artifact weapons and armour.
