Small adventure mode request
« on: August 15, 2006, 08:47:00 am »

Shouldn't be too much bother, but could you please make the 5 key on the keypad pass a turn without having to move in any direction?
I'm not sure if it's possible just to stand your ground and 'let them come' at the moment.

Besides walking into a wall idly, I don't think there's any other way.

Coming from a traditional roguelike perspective, I'd prefer walking into walls to not consume time, and let 5 be used to pass your turn.

Yeah, so, I guess shift+A would be the only way to attack creatures in your square then?  I don't remember using 5 for wait in other roguelikes, it was usually period or comma or something.  But in any case, keys are bindable, so the main thing we need is a wait key.  How long should it wait though?  I guess that can be customized too.  Every step you take is 10 turns if you are speed 1000, and 20 if you are speed 500.  One-stepping in dwarf mode advances only 1 turn.  I guess I can just set that in init or something.

Just have it wait for the length of one of the player's current steps.  Sort of nonsensical, yes, but it will seem intuitive to anyone playing the game, which is what's important.

You could also set it to stop waiting as soon as anything happens...  or at least as soon as the player gets attacked.

I suppose that's best -- at least until the enemies get to wait for short periods of time as well.  That stuff where you can wait once to let you get the first strike is sort of dumb, although at least counterstrikes are a mild counter (though not nearly enough).
