Charcoal as a building material
« on: July 13, 2008, 10:30:22 pm »

For a long time now charcoal has been a building material. I'm assuming it's a bug.

If it isn't, there is no reason anyone would ever purposefully use charcoal as a building material... because it's well, charcoal.

In other words, I just accidentally made a charcoal wall for the umpteenth time and am swearing at my dwarves as they take 5 minutes to tear it down.

You can also use ash, perlash, and one other "bizarre" material, I believe.

Odd how "Experiment" in DF is often synonymous with "Raging inferno of death and dispair"

I say it's not a bug, it's flavor.

You'd have the same problems if, say, you wanted to make obsidian walls but the alunite was closer. Just be more careful when choosing materials. The next update (which will be very soon) will make building constructions that much easier.

Yeah, I've made a butcher's shop out of soap - indoors, although making an outdoor one would be fun as it rains a lot on my current fortress. Potash is also possible, I think.

would it foam?  :o
I dunno cause I never made soap in any of my forts...

I'm sure the charcoal construction won't burn, because constructions are non-flammable.
